Pick a safe-word method
A safe-word lets a relative prove it is really them. Choose the style your family will remember.
The answer is never asked for and never printed.

What to say
A script for a parent or grandparent. Read it out together once.
If anyone asks for money, gift cards or a code, say:
“I'm going to hang up and call my family first.”
You never have to answer straight away. Hanging up is always allowed.
Make the safe-word work
- Agree it face to face, or on a call you started yourself. Never in a text or email.
- Make sure everyone knows it, from grandparents to teenagers.
- Ask for it whenever someone urgently wants money, gift cards or a code, even if the voice sounds right.
- If it was ever typed in a message or said to a caller, choose a different one.
